Mozart: Duo #1 in G Major, for violin & viola, K. 423

Turina: Círculo, Op. 91 (Fantasy for piano trio)

Moeran: String Quartet #1 in A minor

Dohnányi: Piano Quintet #1 in C minor

The Opening Night Concert of our 25th Anniversary Season features a wide variety of musical styles and nationalities: we go from an Austrian duo and a Spanish trio to a French-infused English quartet and a Hungarian quintet.  Colin McGuire and Tamás Strasser will open the program with Wolfgang Mozart’s Duo #1 in G Major.  Lydia Artymiw returns to Alexandria, and is joined by Jill Olson Moser and Kirsten Whitson, for Joaquín Turina’s evocative Círculo, a fantasy for piano trio.  The concert continues with Ernest John Moeran’s lush and energetic String Quartet #1 in A minor (reminiscent of Maurice Ravel’s Quartet).  Our Opening Night Concert concludes with Erno Dohnányi’s Piano Quintet #1, a youthful, exuberant and instantly appealing work that garnered high praise from none other than Johannes Brahms following its 1895 premiere in Budapest.
